I. The Steel Years (2008)
Every ZOSS safe begins with a man who couldn't leave a motor alone.
Our founder spent his childhood elbow-deep in circuits — taking things apart, putting them back together better. In 2008, with a master's degree in electrical engineering in hand, he went to work in the American steel industry, where precision isn't a virtue. It's survival.
His job was making hundred-ton machines obey: designing control circuits, wiring panels, programming the logic, commissioning the drives. In a steel mill, there is no "close enough." A fraction of error doesn't stay hidden — it shows up in the finished product, for everyone to see.
Those years taught him two things he never forgot. First, how steel actually behaves — where it yields, where it refuses to. Second, that a motor is only ever as good as the circuit and the logic behind it.

II. The Gap Nobody Was Closing (2015)
Steel teaches you what real protection looks like. So in 2015, when he went looking for a watch safe, the search was short — because there was nothing to find.
Collectors had two choices. A secure steel box, ugly enough that you had to hide it in a closet. Or a handsome cabinet that protected nothing at all. And the winders inside them? Motors you could hear from the next room, offering a single rotation setting for every watch — as if a vintage Patek and a modern Rolex wound the same way.
He knew what good engineering looked like. He knew what good steel felt like. And he knew the market had neither.
So he designed it himself. ZOSS was founded in Toronto that year — a tinkerer designing safes the way he wished someone already had.

III. What We Believe
Our business model is not a secret. It's just unfashionable: innovation and quality, relentlessly, with no shortcuts.
A company that keeps improving its product — and never cuts corners on how it's built — doesn't need much else. So that's where we put everything.
Innovation and quality, relentlessly, with no shortcuts.

IV. How We Build
Every ZOSS safe is designed in Toronto and made to order. Steel, specified the way our founder learned to judge it. A finish that belongs in your living room, not your basement. Inside, near-silent Mabuchi winders — each one programmable to the specific movement it will spend its life turning. A motor is only as good as the logic behind it. We never forgot.
Selected models go further: fire-resistant construction, biometric access. Because a collector's peace of mind has layers, and so should the safe.
Nothing is built on spec. You approve the design by email before production begins. And before your safe ships, you see it — photos and video of the finished piece, so the first time you lay eyes on it in person, there are no surprises. Only confirmation.

V. Today
ZOSS safes now stand in homes across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia — each one made to order, each one approved by the person it was built for.
If you'd like to see one, we'd be glad to show you. Our Toronto studio receives visitors by appointment.
